How did you first connect with GDR?
My connection to GDR has been a life long musical journey.
In the 1940s my father formed a dance band, “Bob Hutton and the Rhythm Rascals” and so, at a very early age, my introduction to the classics, swing and crooners of the 1930s to 1950s began.
And when my mother died at a very young age in the early 1960s, my father bought me a portable record player and a few 45rpm records. From that day on I had an insatiable appetite for music, and so began the collection of my vast music library. Indeed, I grew up with the music of the swinging sixties. In the 1980s, I was also involved with the production of music mixes with DJ Clubs.
The last part of my journey was when my wife discovered Golden Days Radio and organized a tour of the radio station during Seniors Week in 2012. It didn’t take much convincing that this was the place to be in my retirement.
Why did you want to be a presenter?
To spread the enjoyment music has given me throughout my life to others, and to explore and learn more about community tastes and the music and the history of the golden years.
What experience do you want to give your listeners?
My aim is to provide our listeners with a bright start to the first day of their week with a sprinkling of rare musical gems, amongst other songs, that are not regularly heard on Melbourne radio and trigger fond memories of their past. A picture is worth a thousand words, but music paints a thousand pictures.
