Presenter - Ian Davidson
1. What days and times are you usually scheduled to be on duty?
Wednesdays, from 11am until 2pm
2. How did you first connect with GDR?
I’ve always enjoyed listening to radio stations playing the hits of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Since commercial FM radio arrived in 1980 I never got to like any of the music formats available. For 20 years from 1985 I loved listening to AM Stereo particularly on 3MP and later Magic 693. I bought Sony AM Stereo radio receivers from the USA and Japan. Most people had no idea that our seven commercial AM stations plus 3LO were broadcasting in AM Stereo. As a dial-twiddler I’ve listened to GDR pretty much since its inception. I love the original old hits, particularly the ones with big backings.
3. Why did you want to be a Receptionist/Program Assistant?
I’ve been an enthusiastic radio listener since I was a kid. My dad made me a shortwave wireless and I used to listen to any overseas broadcasts where they spoke English. I’ve always liked the thought of being involved in a radio station … particularly one that’s still live and local.
4. What are the most important things that you believe you can do for listeners who call in, and for the Presenter you are supporting?
I like to have a conversation with and getting to know our listeners. It makes us seem one big family. I like assisting my Presenter in any way, particularly researching things on the computer at reception.
