1. What days and times are you usually scheduled to be on duty?
Mondays, from 7am until 11 am.
2. How did you first connect with GDR?
I heard the Golden Days Radio music at night and most enjoyed it, and then heard a request for volunteers broadcast.
3. Why did you want to be a Receptionist/Program Assistant?
I thought the music was great and liked the presenters’ style and thought it would be good to assist as a volunteer. The station caters for different groups of people, especially those who live on their own and enjoy a chat. The music played brings back memories, and some listeners do not see or hear from family and friends for long periods.
GDR has an extensive range of sponsors, and Community Groups whose locations and telephone numbers are broadcast frequently. This can be a very big help for many listeners. For example TV repairs, IT Assistance, Retirement Homes, Defence Force Veterans, Social Events and so on.
4. What are the most important things that you believe you can do for listeners who call in, and for the Presenter you are supporting?
I like to assist the Presenter by referring to the caller’s preferences and remarks when particular music is played which is of special interest to a number of listeners. I also like to check early on the computer to give extra background information on performers who are coming up on the playlist. This gives listeners added interest when mentioned by the Presenter.
